NFL offensive linemen are very seldom the center of attention. Trent Williams is an exception to that statement.
“The best player at my position in the NFL today would be Trent Williams,” Joe Thomas said, a Browns offensive tackle. “Being a left tackle is all about consistency and doing your job every single play and I think he does that really well.”
Trent Williams is (without a doubt) one of the best offensive tackles in the game today.
So, it shouldn’t surprise anybody that he made the NFL’s Top 100 list, yet again.
Unfortunately, a stat sheet doesn’t exactly do a justice for Williams or any offensive lineman in the game today.
He has started in 84 of the 85 games he has played in his entire career.
If you’re trying to convert that statistic into words we can all understand, that tells you that he is one reliable player.
Williams has been selected to four Pro Bowls (in a row) during the course of his six-year career and was voted second-team All-Pro in 2015.
“For a man that large to be that fast and that quick, it’s pretty rare,” said Kirk Cousins, the Redskins quarterback. “Every pass rusher that we play, he just seems to neutralize them. As a quarterback, it makes me feel very, very safe back there.”
With some help from Williams, Cousins was able to set single-season team records for completions (379), passing yards (4,166), and 300-yard passing games (seven). This is the fourth year in a row that Trent Williams has made the Top 100 list. Not many players can say they’ve made the list four times in a row – or even four times at all.
With Williams as the blind side tackle, the Redskins ranked fourth in the NFL in sacks allowed as the Redskins offensive line would only allow 27 sacks during the 2015 season and went on to win more games in 2015 than they did in the 2013 and 2014 seasons combined.
Trent Williams has been the definition of consistency for the past four years and is one of those players who can make even the best pass rushers in the game become a total non-factor.
“Until you see Trent Williams, don’t ever say what a lineman can’t do,” said Ricky Jean-Francois, a Redskins defensive end.
